Aragijima Island

Aragijima Island is a beautiful rice paddy where 54 large and small paddy fields are formed in a fan-shaped stage. It was pioneered in the early Edo period, still holding its figure at that time, cultivation is still continuing now. It is said that the form of the rice terrace was made by the erosion of the Arita River originating from Koyasan. This rice terrace has been selected as the "100 rice terraced rice paddies in Japan" on the highlighted landscape which changes beautifully every season.
